Strategic Plan 2025-2028
Founded in response to the passage of Proposition 8 in 2008, Gay for Good began as a grassroots movement to foster connection, change perceptions, and serve communities through volunteerism. What started as a single chapter in Los Angeles, California quickly expanded nationwide, powered by passionate volunteers and the belief that service can bridge divides.
Today, Gay for Good has grown into a dynamic network of 21 chapters that have built lasting partnerships with hundreds of nonprofits, creating meaningful opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to give back year-round.
As we look ahead to 2025-2028, we are focused on deepening our impact, strengthening our infrastructure, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Our strategic priorities focus on three key pillars – Growth, Excellence and Inclusivity.
Focus Area 1: Growth
We will drive growth through collaboration, outreach and by offering more opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to connect, volunteer, and make a lasting impact in their communities.
Actionable Objectives
- Grow Volunteer Base – Increase volunteer recruitment efforts to engage more LGBTQ+ individuals and allies in meaningful service, focusing on outreach to underrepresented identities within our volunteer network.
- Expand Chapters and Reach – Expand service area of current chapters, launch chapters in cities with high potential for impact, and in smaller communities that lack spaces for LGBTQ+ people to build community.
- Build Partnerships – Establish relationships with new corporate, nonprofit, and community partners to increase volunteer opportunities and resources.
- Increase Participation – Create nationwide day of service, develop multi-chapter initiatives and activate around key themes to boost participation and maximize impact.
Focus Area 2: Excellence
By investing in operations, strengthening our fundraising capacity, and establishing a cohesive chapter model and brand identity, we will improve our efficiency, strengthen our programs and position Gay for Good as the leading LGBTQ+ service organization.
Actionable Objectives
- Create Unified Chapter Model – Establish clear roles, expectations and guidelines, develop chapter leader curriculum, and provide comprehensive onboarding, ongoing training, resources and mentorship.
- Invest in Capacity Building – Invest in a robust Volunteer Management System, and best in class tools to automate tasks, improve efficiency and support the collection and analysis of data to enhance reporting and storytelling.
- Increase Fundraising Capabilities – Implement fundraising strategies to diversify revenue streams, support increased staff capacity and chapter growth, and to ensure long-term stability and success.
- Strengthen Brand Identity: Establish branding guidelines to create a unified nationwide identity that centers our diverse volunteers and partners.
Focus Area 3: Inclusivity
By deepening our commitment to inclusivity, we strengthen our mission, foster collaboration and connection, and ensure every LGBTQ+ person and ally feels valued in service.
Actionable Objectives
- Training & Education – Provide resources and training to chapter leaders on best practices for fostering inclusive, safe, and affirming volunteer spaces.
- Increase Representation – Develop recruitment practices that ensure volunteers, chapter leaders, and partners reflect the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, with a focus on under-represented identities.
- Accessible Volunteering – Increase the number of inclusive service opportunities that are welcoming to people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds.
- Community Partnerships – Partner with organizations that are led by, and in service to, diverse communities to build meaningful relationships and engage in intersectional collaboration.
Through these efforts, we will continue to provide welcoming, affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ people and allies to lead, serve, and connect—building stronger communities and a more inclusive world.
