Join us in acts of service this MLK day as we partner with our friends at #BlazeItForward to make the world a better place with one intentional act at a time. Because COVID has limited in-person group volunteer projects, we invite you to turn your day-off into a day of action by taking part in an independent act of service, and inspiring others to do the same.
Martin Luther King Jr. recognized the power of service, and lived his life serving others. He famously said, “Everyone can be great… because everyone can serve,” and each year on the 3rd Monday in January Americans are encouraged to volunteer to improve their communities. We’ve compiled a list of ideas below.

Create Care Kits for the Homeless
Video: How to Pack a Care Kit
- Grab a Ziploc bag(s)
- Fill with water, snacks, hygiene items, socks, notepad and pen, gift cards
- Buddy up with a family member or friend
- Deliver your care kit(s)
Start a Neighborhood Food Drive

- Create a list of items they accept and need
- Place a box on your doorstep or driveway
- Spread the word to friends and neighbors
(Be sure to include a wish list and a “drop of by” date) - Deliver
Community Clean-Up
- Grab a pair of gloves, a bucket, and pair of tongs
- Head to your local park, beach or community space
- Pick up trash and debris
- Recycle cans and bottles
- Safely dispose of trash
Brighten a Neighbor’s Day
- Deliver a meal
- Offer to pick up groceries
- Rake leaves or shovel snow
- Send flowers
- Call or send a card
