Spend a Saturday Evening Helping Celebrate Two-Spirit Native American Culture and Traditions
Join G4G San Francisco as we support the local Indigenous community by helping with the post-powwow cleanup and breakdown. Our volunteers will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth conclusion to this important cultural event!
Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025
Time: 5:00pm–9:00pm (Please arrive 25-30 minutes prior to check-in if you’d like a free meal ticket)
Location: Fort Mason Festival Pavilion – Volunteer Check-in sign: 2 Marina Blvd San Francisco, CA 94123
Public Transit Options:
- MUNI Bus: Take the #28 bus to Fort Mason/Marina Gate. The bus stop is about a 5-minute walk to the Pavilion
- MUNI Bus Alternative: Take the #30 or #22 to Chestnut & Laguna, then walk 10 minutes north to Fort Mason
- Ride Share: A designated pickup/drop off zone is located at the Marina Gate entrance
Project Details: Volunteers will be assisting vendors with breaking down their Powwow stations; helping dismantle and store tables and chairs; supporting the restoration of the Fort Mason, Festival Pavilion to its original configuration post-Powwow; and working alongside community members in a respectful and collaborative environment. Wear warm and comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes.
Important! Mandatory Orientation for all volunteers will be provided via Zoom on January 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Link to be provided the week of January 20th.
Other Information: Volunteers are highly encouraged to come experience the 14th Annual Powwow prior to our volunteer shift. The annual BAAIT-S Powwow is an intertribal social gathering celebrating Two-Spirit Native American culture and traditions through singing, drumming, and dancing. Traditional Native American dancers, drum groups, Mexica dancers, and other artists will be present, and vendors will sell food, handmade Native American jewelry, arts and crafts, and other merchandise. You’ve got to try an Indian Taco!

About Our Partner: BAAIT-S is a community-based volunteer organization offering culturally relevant activities for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Native Americans, their families and friends. Two-Spirit refers to the commonly shared notion among many Native American tribes that some individuals naturally possessed and manifested both a masculine and feminine spiritual qualities. American society commonly identifies Two-Spirit People as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender.
