WAIVER: Registering for this event means you agree to the “Gay For Good Volunteer Release”: G4G National Waiver

WHERE: 2500 Bloomington Avenue S., Minneapolis, 555404

ABOUT:  It’s a simple notion: people who are sick should not be without food. Yet it happens every day that people in our community with life-threatening illnesses find themselves unable to shop or cook — and, often, without the support network to help.

Open Arms is the only nonprofit organization in Minnesota that cooks and delivers free meals specifically tailored to meet the nutrition needs of individuals living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, MS, and ALS.

WHAT TO DO TO PREPARE:
  1. Please print and sign the Release and Confidentiality Waiver. Bring to your volunteer shift, an Open Arms staff member will collect it prior to your shift
  2. Delivery groups typically work in pairs or trios to deliver meals to clients and must provide their own transportation
  3. Please plan to arrive at Open Arms 10 minutes prior to your shift to get checked-in.
  4. Open Arms has a parking lot adjacent to our building.  If the lot is full, there is ample free street parking on Bloomington Avenue and 25th Street. Whenever possible we do recommend carpooling.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Upon entering the Open Arms’ building please check in with our reception desk volunteer. Once your group is complete, you will be welcomed by a staff member and given an overview of Open Arms and the delivery process. Your group will then break into delivery pairs or trios, to deliver nourishing meals to clients in the metro area. Typical routes are approx. 1 ½-2 hours in length with 3-6 delivery stops. Each delivery route has a route sheet with pertinent client details, a map and turn by turn directions. We also include a copy of our Delivery Driver Frequently Asked Questions along with our delivery bags on every route as a reference on the road. Volunteers do provide their own vehicles for delivery and the driver must be 18+ and have a valid license and insurance. Youth are welcome to join supervising adults for this experience. After your group experience our staff will send a follow up email with any group photos as well as ways you can stay connected to Open Arms in the future.
