WHERE: Minnesota Zoo (13000 Zoo Blvd, Apple Valley, MN 55124)

ABOUT: Dreamnight Event—children with life-threatening illnesses, and their families, are invited to visit the zoo and enjoy a meal for free.

General Information: The Dreamnight Event goes rain or shine—please dress for the weather. Please bring along your own refillable water bottle. Wear comfortable, supportive shoes. It is prefered that you do not wear blue jeans but rather slacks, shorts or capris and tops in the colors of khaki, black or white. You will be given a name-tag with the zoo logo on it so that guests know you are volunteering for the Zoo.

Enter and park as if you are coming to visit the Zoo.  There will be a table set up at the bottom of the sidewalk for volunteer check in.

Registration 3:30-6:00 PM

Guests will arrive beginning at 4:00 PM, 3:30-4:00 PM is training on the registration process. You will be outside but under a covered roof.  If it is chilly, bring a jacket.  While chairs are at the tables, you may be standing and sitting while at the table.

Dinner Service  4:30-7:00 PM

Our guests for this event may have a baby in a stroller, a toddler and a child in a wheelchair or using crutches. They are so appreciative when a volunteer can help them maneuver the food line, carry their food trays to tables, find an open table or hi chair, and even help them clear their table so the next family can find a seat. We have two food service areas so the group will be split in to two groups.  4:30-5:00 PM is training on the dinner service process.

One of the dinner areas is outside, one is inside.  Probably won’t know which area you are assigned until you arrive so do dress for the weather. Standing, walking and carrying trays/hi chairs are the name of the game here.

 Goodbye Gifts & Survey Collection 5:00 – 8:00 PM

Every youngster will receive a plush goodbye gift as they leave the Zoo. You’ll be opening the boxes and handing these out, smiling and waving good bye so the last impression they have of their zoo visit is full of fun and happy vibes. There also will be a survey that guests may drop off at the table as they exit.

You will be outside but under a covered roof.  If it is chilly, bring a jacket.  While chairs are at the tables, you may be standing more than sitting so that you are able to walk up to children and hand them their gift.
