G4G San Francisco with California State Parks Foundation!

Join us as we help maintain Candlestick State Recreational Park and support ongoing habitat restoration!

California State Parks Foundation was founded in 1969 by William Penn Mott, Jr., to be a partner to the California State Parks in protecting and preserving the California state park system. Over the course of 50+ years, the organization has built a dedicated movement of over 70,000 members and raised more than $300 million to benefit state parks.

Today, California has the largest and most biologically diverse state park system in the nation, with 280 park units that are vitally important to the well-being of our state’s environment, economy, and quality of life.

Date: Saturday, August 2nd
Time:
9:45am – 12:00pm
Location:  Candlestick State Recreational Park, 500 Hunters Point Expressway, San Francisco, CA 94124

Volunteers will park in Candlestick Point State Recreational Area’s main parking lot, accessed from the small asphalt road at the end of Gilman Ave. The google link provided above will get you to the main parking lot.  If you arrive later than 10:15amPST, please drive to the Yosemite Slough area.

Project Tasks: We will be helping keep the park clean and support ongoing habitat restoration.  We will be working in the northernmost Yosemite Slough area. Participants can choose to pick up micro-trash and debris from the park or remove an invasive species.  Secondarily, we may also work to rebuild garden boxes in the Foundation’s community garden.

Additional Information: The Foundation will provide G4G volunteers with protective gloves to wear and recommend wearing long-sleeved shirts and a hat while pulling and bagging the weeds.  Closed-toe shoes are mandatory.

Ages 10 and older are welcome (minors must be accompanied by an adult and bring a waiver signed by their guardian).

Project Leads: Bryan Cleveland
Volunteers Needed: 25
