G4G OC/Long Beach + Second Harvest Farm | July 22, 2023

Join us at Second Harvest Food Bank. Volunteers will help with planting, harvesting, weeding, and maintaining the farm fields to provide access to nutritious food to those in Orange County.

What to Wear/Bring:

• Footwear: Closed-toed, sturdy rubber soled running/tennis shoes or hiking boots (keep in mind shoes could get muddy)
• Clothing:
  • Long sleeves are highly recommended because some plants have small prickly spines
  • Full length pants are required
  • Hats/Sunscreen are highly encouraged (this is an outdoor opportunity with limited shade)
  • Garden gloves appropriate for food handling (gloves that have not been used for handling insecticides, pesticides, etc.) and if you do not have a pair, one-time use disposable gloves will be available to you
  • For personal safety reasons and to prevent foreign object contamination, we ask volunteers to refrain from wearing jewelry that dangles and/or has detachable pieces such as bracelets, necklaces and dangly earrings
  • Refillable water bottle (there will be water available)
  • Leave valuable items at home, as Second Harvest is not responsible for lost or stolen items

What to Expect:

• You will be exposed to the elements so please plan accordingly
• Repeated bending, walking, and moving around on uneven ground
• Shade and water will be available for breaks as needed

Directions and Parking: GPS Address: 12751 Lambert Road, Irvine Harvest Solutions Farm is located at Irvine Blvd and Lambert Road near the South Coast Research and Extension Center (SCREC). To access parking, you will pass the SCREC main entrance on Irvine Blvd and turn right onto Lambert Road. When you turn onto Lambert Road, please drive slowly since there are pedestrians and equipment moving in the area. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the shift to allow time for parking and check-in. The parking is along the fence, past the check-in table.
