Volunteer With Us to Load & Unload Set Pieces for the Dezart Performs Production of Fat Ham
Join us to load set pieces on the truck and then go to the Palm Springs Women’s Club to unload and set the pieces on the stage.
Please note that this project will include some heavy lifting, going to two different locations, and all volunteers must wear appropriate clothing (see full details below).
Volunteers will be loading and unloading eight (8) 4×8 platforms (plywood) plus a few smaller platforms and some set walls, tool boxes and crates of equipment.
Date: Friday, January 3, 2024
Time: 9am – 12pm
Location: Two locations
1) All volunteers will meet at 9am at 68-703 Perez Road, A-9, Cathedral City
2) After loading set pieces volunteers will travel to the second location to unload the pieces on the stage at the Palm Springs Women’s Club, 314 S Cahuilla Road, Palm Springs

Our partner has General Safety Guidelines they ask that volunteers review and adhere to:
1. Wear Appropriate Attire:
– Closed-toe shoes (steel-toe preferred).
– Comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.
– Gloves for handling heavy or sharp objects.
2. Stay Alert:
– Be aware of your surroundings, especially moving equipment or people carrying heavy items.
– Avoid distractions like mobile phones during active loading.
Loading and Lifting:
3. Use Proper Lifting Techniques:
– Bend at the knees, not the waist.
– Lift with your legs, not your back.
– Ask for help if an item is too heavy or awkward.
4. Secure Heavy Items:
– Ensure all items are properly strapped or stabilized before transporting.
– Use dollies, carts, or other equipment for heavier loads.
Theater-Specific Concerns:
5. Maintain Clear Pathways:
– Keep aisles and doorways clear of equipment or materials.
– Be mindful of fire exits and access routes.
6. Be Cautious with Rigging and Overhead Work:
– Only qualified personnel should handle rigging equipment.
– Never stand under suspended loads.
7. Electrical Safety:
– Do not tamper with electrical systems unless authorized.
– Report any exposed wires or unsafe conditions immediately.
Emergency Procedures:
8. Know the Exits:
– Familiarize yourself with the nearest exits and emergency procedures.
9. Report Incidents:
– Inform point person immediately if an injury or hazard occurs.
Rick Bluhm will be the point person on the day of the project, managing the load-in of the set and production site, and will be who volunteers report to when arriving and throughout the day.
