  • G4G LA Clean Up Challenge (Virtual Volunteer Event)
     October 4, 2020 - October 10, 2020
     8:00 am - 6:00 pm

During the week of October 4th– the 10th, grab your mask, some gloves, a garbage bag… and start picking up trash in a week-long event!

Go it alone, grab a friend or two, or post on social media to assemble a very small group that can socially distance. Collect litter in your neighborhood, at a local park, your favorite hiking trail, or at the beach. We’re not going to tell you where to go, you do you! You decide where you would most like to go. Whether you live on the beach or in the valley, anyone can participate!

Win a Prize!
Post your pic of you cleaning up on social media and we will enter you into a drawing for a free Gay For Good t-shirt from our online shop.

How to enter to win:
(winner will be selected the week of October 11th)

  1. RSVP here so we know you are participating
  2. Post a pic on Instagram or Facebook and tag @gayforgood
  3. Add #gayforgood & #unselfie to your social media post (a play on the selfie pic but doing good) showing yourself with the bag of trash you collected).

Safety first! Your safety and the safety of your community are of utmost concern to us and should be the main factor when deciding if it is safe to pick up litter.

  • Maintain physical distance – to prevent the spread of COVID-19 please stay at least 6 feet from all passersby and anyone outside of your household
  • Wear a mask – a mask must be worn at all times when outside for your safety and the safety of your neighbors
  • Stay hydrated – Fill up your reusable water bottle before you head into your neighborhood, and return home if you feel lightheaded or weak due to the heat.
  • Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat!
  • Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes
  • Minimize physical contact with litter – It is best to use some type of litter grabber and/or protective work gloves to protect yourself from cuts, scrapes, and any contaminant that may be on the collected litter or trash.
  • Keep your hands away from your face – During and after collecting litter, do not touch your face with gloved hands or hands that have not been washed and sanitized.
  • Avoid personal injury – only pick up litter or trash that you can individually manage. Don’t exceed your physical weight lifting limitations.
  • Secure the collected materials in a bag or bucket; ideally use bags and buckets with secure lids. Minimize the handling and transfer of litter.

Gather your supplies! Ask for an empty pickle bucket from the corner deli, or put those plastic grocery bags under your sink and gardening gloves to use! We encourage you to get creative and re-purpose items from home, like dish gloves and reusable and washable bags, to limit travel and exposure. Click here to see a helpful home cleanup supply guide!

Disposal Options. Only collect what you can carry! Please do not pick up so much litter that it won’t fit in your home bin. As you’re cleaning up, be sure to separate out your trash and recyclables! By properly separating, we’re enhancing our recycling knowledge and supporting a healthy and effective waste and recycling system.

Thanks for making a difference!
