Join Us as We Partner With the Billion Oyster Project

At this volunteer event we will help Billion Oyster Project with washing and loading clean shells into super trays so they can be used to grow more oysters.

Date: Sunday, September 29, 2024

Time: 9am – 3pm

Location: Governors Island

Volunteer Slots: 13

Ages: 16+

IMPT: All volunteers must additionally sign up with our partner. Details will be sent in your confirmation email from Gay for Good after registering.

What to Wear/Bring: Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or scratched. We will provide work gloves and eye protection on site. The event will be held in late September and we will be outdoors so wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, and lunch/snack.

Transportation/Parking: Must take the GI Ferry, it is free on Sunday and runs every half hour. Please be on the 9:00am ferry. The ferry is reachable by the NYC Ferry at Wall Street Pier 11, Staten Island Ferry, and R/W/4 ad 6 trains, and the M15

Project Lead: Kaylin (she/her)

Additional Details: We will meet at 9:30, and work until 2:30 with a break for lunch! You can bring lunch, or there are options near by on Governors Island.

About Our Partner: Billion Oyster Project has a vision for a future in which New York Harbor is the center of a rich, diverse, and abundant estuary. The communities that surround this complex ecosystem have helped construct it, and in return benefit from it, with endless opportunities for work, education, and recreation. The harbor is a world-class public space, well used and well cared for—our Commons.
