Come out for a school garden shift with G4G Denver & Denver Public Schools

For our first event with Denver Public Schools we’re working a garden shift at McAuliffe at Smiley! This garden is managed in partnership with SustainEd Farms and Focus Points Family Resource Center / Huerta Urbana. Those interested can head to a nearby café for a social afterward!

  • SustainEd Farms was founded on the principle of providing locally grown food to schools and communities in need. With the mission of contributing to a sustainable food system in the greater Denver area, Matt and Izzy incorporated pilot programming for a year and a half before setting up school partnerships. To this day, SustainEd Farms brings their vision to life by empowering students and providing education on where real food comes from.
  • Focus Points Family Resource Center believes that a strong family is made up of thriving individuals. This means that both children and caregivers have the support they need to pursue their goals. Their multigenerational programs meet families’ needs by connecting them to resources to build healthy, strong families. 
  • Huerta Urbana 2-Gen Farm Incubator is an agricultural social enterprise which provides economic opportunities for families and ensures access to fresh and healthy food. The program trains families in local food production and distribution. Participants harvest produce for personal use and for sale at farmers market sites, all while earning a stipend, acquiring entrepreneurial skills from industry leaders, and graduating with the Colorado State University Beginner Market Farmer Training Certificate.

Ages: Children are welcome with a parent/guardian/chaperone

  • Please wear weather-appropriate clothing you don’t mind getting dirty
  • Please bring work gloves and small garden shears if you have them
  • Recommend wearing a hat!
