Help maintain a school garden with G4G Denver, Denver Public Schools, and SustainEd Farms
Continuing our connection with Denver Public Schools (DPS) we’re working a garden shift at Ashley Elementary in Denver! This garden is part of DPS Urban Farms program for fresh produce for school cafeterias and is managed in partnership with SustainEd Farms. Those interested can head to a nearby café for a social afterward!
- Denver Public Schools sustainability programs include management of nearly 100 active gardens with a focus of connecting community with nature and nutritious food. By introducing students to agricultural and local food systems, DPS hopes to equip their students with the nutritional, physical, and mental health tools for a healthy holistic adulthood.
- SustainEd Farms was founded on the principle of providing locally grown food to schools and communities in need. With the mission of contributing to a sustainable food system in the greater Denver area, Matt and Izzy incorporated pilot programming for a year and a half before setting up school partnerships. To this day, SustainEd Farms brings their vision to life by empowering students and providing education on where real food comes from.
