This month we will be paying respects to one of Ohio’s Largest Cemeteries.  Green Lawn Cemetery is a historic private rural cemetery located in ColumbusOhio in the United States. Organized in 1848 and opened in 1849, the cemetery was the city’s premier burying ground in the 1800s.  With 360 acres (150 ha), it is Ohio’s second-largest cemetery. With this cemetery being one of Ohio’s most historical burial sites, there are many tombstones and plaques that go uncleaned or cared for.  We will be volunteering our time to the Green Lawn Nonprofit to help clean tombstones and plaques that have been neglected in order to pay respects to those who have come before us and who have built a better Columbus for us today. (Hint—check out our October event….it’s similar but involves remembering our lost furry ones).

Gay For Good will provide water, dish soap, and some scrubbing pads.  We are asking you to bring a bucket if you have one!  Here is a guide to best cleaning strategies…in case you have some items at home you would like to bring: https://cemeteryconservatorsunitedstandards.org/standards/cleaning/
